Två GBIF-finansierade digitaliseringsprojekt med fokus på bin har tillsammans genererat omkring 500 000 dataposter med primär biodiversitetsinformation. De två projekten har utförts vid the USDA-ARS Bee Biology and Systematics Laboratory, USA och the Reference Centre on Environmental Information (CRIA), Brasilien.
Med uppskattningsvis en miljon föremål är the US National Pollinating Insects Collections en av de största bisamlingarna i världen. Tack vare en digitaliseringsgrupp ledd av Dr. Terry Griswold vid the USDA-ARS Bee Biology and Systematics Laboratory är idag information om 3561 arter som representeras av drygt 300 000 föremål tillgängliga via GBIF. Dessa inkluderar representanter för alla familjer och subfamiljer av bin. Dataposterna representerar också nära 14 000 unika lokaler i 92 länder. Klicka på länken för att se detta dataset.
Den andra digitaliseringsgruppen, ledd av Dr. Dora Canhos vid CRIA, har digitaliserat föremålen i bisamlingarna vid följande brasilianska museer: the Entomological collection of the Botanical Labotatory, the Bee Collection of the department of Biology – FFCLRP/USP, the Entomological collection of the department of Systematics and Ecology, the Pe. Jesus Santiago Moure Entomological collection (Hymenoptera), the Paulo Nogueira-Neto Entomological collection – IB/USP, the Moure and Costa Entomological collection och the Laboraty of Ecology and Biogeography of insects from Caatinga. Projektet har genererat knappt 200 000 dataposter med information om bl.a. 4500 typer. Klicka på länken för att se detta dataset.
