The Institute of Plant Sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences is seeking to appoint a Professor (f/m) of Botany (40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date October 1st 2018)

The professorship (according to § 98 UG) with the focus on mycology is assigned to the field of Systematic Botany and Geobotany. The research emphasis on questions relating to diversity and interactions of fungal organisms is desired. The holder of the position shall have an outstanding record of high profile publications and successful acquisition of third-party funds in plant scientific/mycological research in the field mentioned above. The research of the position holder shall support the research core area of the University in ”Environment and Global Change” as well as the research nucleus ”Evolution and Functional Biodiversity” of the Institute. Active participation in the strategic local cooperation NAWI Graz ist expected. In addition, we expect gender mainstreaming competence. Svenska GBIF är glada över att kunna meddela att vi blir värdnation för det 9:e Europeiska Nodmötet. Mötet äger rum i Stockholm mellan 8-11 maj, 2017. Förutom att diskutera och uppdatera den Europeiska verksamhetsplanen så kommer följande ämnen diskuteras: systematiskt insamlad data, sekvensdata, data användning och utvecklingen av ALA-baserade portaler.

Just nu är 19 Europeiska länder medlemmar i GBIF och ytterligare två är observerande medlemmar. Vi hälsar också våra senaste två medlemmar, Polen och Schweiz välkomna att delta!

Inom kort planerar planerar vi att lansera en ny portal för Svenska GBIF som bygger på ett internationellt samarbete med Atlas of Living Australia (ALA). ALA använder öppen källkod och kraftfulla verktyg som underlättar samarbetet mellan utvecklare spridda över hela världen. Det har gjort systemet mycket populärt. Bara de senaste två åren har sju länder utanför Australien startat nationella ALA-baserade portaler, och ytterligare tolv länder är på väg in i samarbetet, däribland Sverige.

Ni kan redan nu ta en titt på en testversion av sidan här. Beslutet att välja ALA-systemet för att bygga den nya svenska GBIF-portalen har fattats efter att flera omfattande utvärderingar (Calluna utvärdering samt kommentarer; Global ALA Survey) har visat dess långsiktiga fördelar i form av funktionaliteter och utvecklingspotential.
