Veronika A. Johansson elected Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia

We are pleased to announce that Veronika A. Johansson, Node Manager for GBIF Sweden, has been elected Deputy Regional Representative for the Europe and Central Asia region of GBIF.
The election followed the agreed procedures for the region, and with her candidacy confirmed, Veronika will begin her two-year term on 1 October 2025.
In her vision statement, Veronika emphasized the importance of strengthening participation of Nodes across the region, with a particular focus on promoting GBIF within the EU and broadening engagement with new partners. She highlighted the need to support sustainable node resourcing, onboarding, and capacity building, ensuring that Nodes are well equipped to contribute effectively.
Guided by the CARE principles, Veronika is committed to fostering inclusive and ethical data practices, while promoting collaboration across thematic areas. Her priorities include increasing visibility and strengthening regional cooperation so that GBIF can continue to play a leading role in supporting research, policy, and society with high-quality biodiversity data.
